Folding smartphones are predicted to be the next new trend. Currently, there are quite a number of devices with this concept circulating in the market, both those that are officially sold and those that are just being exhibited.
Even though it is a breakthrough, folding smartphones still have problems to be widely adopted. These devices have not completely taken over the current trend as they are still not affordable enough.
Regarding folding devices, Apple is known to have not been affected by this trend. The technology giant from Cupertino, California, United States (US) is quite calm in facing the trend of folding smartphones, and even seems not interested in adopting it.
However, recently, it has been rumored that Apple has plunged into this trend as is currently being done by Samsung and several other Chinese brands. Apple is now reportedly ready to enter the 'fold-fold' era as it is said to start looking for vendors or other partners who are ready to supply foldable display panels.
According to a post on the local Chinese social media page Weibo by renowned leakster Ice Universe, Apple has apparently ordered a large number of folding screen samples from Samsung. The post claims that this foldable screen will be used on mobile devices, and Samsung is expected to supply Apple with a sample of this screen over a period of one year. If this is true, it could mean that Apple is actually starting to actively look for ways to make such devices.
However, it is unclear what Apple plans are at this time, so it remains to be seen what products Apple can use it for. Maybe it will be used for iPhone, but at the same time, it can also be used for iPad where Apple can try to make a bigger iPad with a foldable screen which will make it more portable.
